Tucked behind the main residence, the detached 1-bedroom, 1-bath ADU at our Lafayette project was designed as a welcoming retreat for visiting family and friends. A flagstone path winds through the backyard lounge and arrives at a quiet, light-filled space that opens fully to the outdoors through a large multi-sliding glass door.

Inside, the compact footprint was carefully considered to maximize both function and openness. Custom plywood cabinetry extends to the vaulted ceiling, creating generous storage while emphasizing the vertical volume of the space. A deep blue tiled backsplash wraps into integrated shelving and media storage, bringing warmth and texture to the main living area.

The kitchenette was designed to support comfortable day-to-day living without feeling overly utilitarian, complete with a full-size refrigerator, two-burner cooktop, sink, and natural stone countertops. Adjacent to the bedroom, an oversized storage room accessed by a wide overhead door replaces the traditional role of a garage, offering flexible space for storage, hobbies, or outdoor equipment while doubling as a secondary entry into the ADU.
